The Linux Documentation Project Weekly News

Issue Number : 01
Publication Date : 2006-03-21

1. News in The LDP world

  • Debian acknowledges GFDL

Debian announced last week that the GNU Free Documentation License are considered free if they do not contain any invariant sections. This is good news for the LDP, as our documents can now be included into the Debian and Debian-based distributions. Note that this does not automatically mean that the entire LDP collection will be included. Authors who want their documents to be included in the Debian documentation should check their licenses.

  • New Weekly News Editor

We are happy to announce that Hans Bol has volunteered to take over the weekly news editing job from Y Giridhar Appaji Nag. Hans has been following the mailing-lists for quite some time and found editing our newsletter an ideal opportunity to help.

2. Discussions on The LDP lists

  • Feedback wanted on Windows-to-Linux HOWTO:

Omari Norman is willing to upgrade the DOS/Windows to Linux HOWTO. Alex Nordstrom had some advice. For instance that people first start to use free software that is available on both platforms. When people are more convenient with the software the jump into the Linux world is not that big.

  • TLDP author profiles - change of address:

Greg Ferguson let us know that the address has changed for the TLDP Author Profiles database. It now can be found at : http://avalonix.co.uk/tldp/

3. Documents submitted for review

  • Fabio Busatto's TCP Keepalive HOWTO. This document describes the TCP keepalive implementation in the Linux kernel, introducing main general concepts and pointing both to system configuration and software development.
  • A reviewer is searched for to take a look at the following HOWTO: Subversion, SSH, TortoiseSVN Windows Client With Fedora Core 4 Linux HOWTO. Please contact editors@en.tldp.org
  • Daniel Coletti wrote an article on Organizing a FLOSS Conference HOWTO. A reviewer is being searched.
